    1914 up to 1918

    The castle was used as a prison for both world wars. During the first world war 'Red Clydesider' David Kirkwood was also a noteable prisoner.

    1941 up to 1945

    The Honours of Scotland are once again hidden for safe keping, this time buried in David’s Tower, incase of German invasion. The castle is at the same time used to hold captured luftwaffe pilots.

    1950

    Edinburgh Castle hosts the very first Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
