As well as being Scotland’s national library it is also its largest, containing over 7 million books, 13 million printed items and almost 2 million maps.

Notable items include the original manuscript of ‘The Origin of Species’ by Charles Darwin and the first folio of Shakespeare.

The national library of Scotland is located on George IV Bridge just off the Royal Mile.
